How We Calculate Your Exercise Energy Expenditure

Which data source Hexis uses to estimate the energy you burned during exercise, and why it depends on your sport.

Hexis automatically uses the most precise data available from your workout, training planner or connected wearable device to estimate and quantify the energy you burned during exercise.

The general rule

Hexis uses developed proprietary predictive algorithms and science backed methods to estimate and quantify exercise energy expenditure. The methods use can vary from sport to sport but all will consider the type, intensity and duration of your activity.

For the most accurate exercise energy expenditure data the following is advised when adding or syncing a planned or completed workout:

  • Cycling: Include average power

  • Running: Include average pace and total distance

  • Swimming: Include average pace and total distance

  • Ensure intensity reflects the average intensity of the workout, not just the hardest or easiest moment

Getting the most accurate estimate

  1. Keep your profile up to date with current body mass and training information.

  2. Make sure workout details - distance, pace, and power, where available - are complete.

  3. Connect your training platform or wearable (TrainingPeaks, Garmin, Apple Health, WHOOP, Intervals.icu, and others).

Please note not all training platforms share power, pace or distance data so please check the workout when it is added to Hexis.
