Use this article to understand what the TrainingPeaks integration does, connect it to Hexis, understand what data comes across based on your TrainingPeaks account, and resolve common sync issues.
What the TrainingPeaks integration does
Hexis is an official TrainingPeaks partner. We integrate your planned and completed workout data, along with your wellness data - such as sleep, HRV, body weight, and more - directly into Hexis, where it informs your personalized Fuel plans.
Note: the integration is currently one-way - Hexis pulls data from TrainingPeaks, but doesn't send your nutrition data back. We're exploring pushing information back to TrainingPeaks in the future. If there's something specific you'd like to see reflected back in TrainingPeaks, let us know at [email protected] - it helps us prioritize what to build.
Connecting TrainingPeaks to Hexis
To connect TrainingPeaks, follow the general integration steps in Wearable Integrations and select TrainingPeaks from the list. Once connected, you can confirm its status at any time by going to More > Settings > Integrations.
What data comes across, and what depends on your TrainingPeaks account
Hexis directly maps specific fields from TrainingPeaks: start time, duration, power, pace, and intensity factor. How much of this comes across automatically depends on two things: your TrainingPeaks account type, and whether your session was logged as a structured workout.
Basic vs Premium TrainingPeaks accounts:
Basic: Intensity Factor, average power, and exercise energy expenditure data are not sent from the TrainingPeaks' API, so this data won't automatically appear on your synced workout in Hexis. This is a TrainingPeaks restriction, not a Hexis one. We recommend you consider upgrading to a TrainingPeaks Premium or considering another training planner if this is problematic for your experience.
Premium: Intensity Factor, average power, and exercise energy expenditure data sync come across automatically.
Either way, Hexis will still identify the workout type, duration, and start time (if you've included it in TrainingPeaks). If you're on a TrainingPeaks Basic account, or a field is missing for any other reason, you can add it manually once the workout lands in Hexis. What we recommend ensuring you input into Hexis most, by sport:
Cycling: average power, intensity
Running and swimming: average pace, total distance, intensity
Strength training: intensity
Note: TrainingPeaks only sends average power data for workouts that have already happened, not for future-dated sessions. If you have a power target for an upcoming ride, add it directly in Hexis for the most accurate exercise energy expenditure estimate.
Structured workouts vs notes:
If a session is logged in TrainingPeaks as a plain note, or only described in the workout description, Hexis will still pick up the workout type, duration, and your description text - but it can't pull in details that were only written as free text. If a synced workout is missing details in Hexis, check that it's set up in TrainingPeaks as a structured workout with the start time, duration, and intensity fields filled in.
đĄTip: whatever account type you have, it's worth entering a start time in TrainingPeaks for every workout - even an approximate one, and even if it changes later - since this is essential for Hexis to map your session correctly.
Understanding your Intensity Factor:
TrainingPeaks calculates its own Intensity FactorÂŽ for your workouts (a TrainingPeaks trademark), based on time spent above and below your threshold. Hexis maps this across to our own intensity scale - see the mapping below.
TrainingPeaks can calculate Intensity Factor a number of ways depending on your sport and data source - for example, for a run, it may calculate it based on heart rate, which can occasionally produce a higher-than-expected result for what felt like a moderate effort, such as a 40-minute run showing as "maximal" in Hexis. This reflects how TrainingPeaks itself calculated that figure, not an error in how Hexis maps it.
Editing a workout after it's synced
Planned workouts: the TrainingPeaks calendar is always the source of truth. Any change you make there is reflected in Hexis right away.
Completed workouts: once a completed workout has landed in Hexis, make any edits - for example, correcting the intensity - directly in Hexis rather than in TrainingPeaks. Edits made in TrainingPeaks after a workout has already synced as completed won't carry across.
Why am I getting an alert saying information is missing on my workout?
This means the workout imported, but Hexis is missing details it needs to calculate your energy needs - most often because of your account type or how the session was logged, covered above. Open the workout in Hexis or TrainingPeaks, fill in the missing fields, and sync again.
FAQs
Can Hexis send my nutrition data back to TrainingPeaks?
No. The integration is currently one-way: Hexis pulls workout and wellness data from TrainingPeaks, but doesn't send your nutrition data back. We're exploring this for the future - if there's something specific you'd like reflected back in TrainingPeaks, let us know at [email protected].
Does Hexis integrate directly with TrainingPeaks?
Yes. Hexis is an official TrainingPeaks partner. We pull in your planned and completed workout data, as well as wellness data such as sleep and body weight, directly into Hexis, informing your personalized Carb Coding⢠and Live Energy plans.
What's the difference between a Basic and Premium TrainingPeaks account for Hexis?
On a Basic TrainingPeaks account, intensity factor, power, and calorie data aren't sent via TrainingPeaks' API - this is a TrainingPeaks restriction, not a Hexis one. On a Premium account, all of this data comes across automatically. Either way, Hexis will still identify your workout type, duration, and start time, and you can add any missing details manually. See "What data comes across" above.
How does Hexis calculate intensity from TrainingPeaks data?
Hexis maps TrainingPeaks' Intensity Factor across to our own intensity scale. See "What data comes across" above for how this works and an important caveat about how TrainingPeaks itself calculates Intensity Factor for some activities.
