How do I use Smart Log to log a meal?

How to log a meal by describing what you ate instead of searching for it.

Use this article to log a meal quickly by describing it, rather than searching for each item one by one.

Smart Log is the quickest way to add a meal with several items in it. Instead of searching for each one, you describe the meal and Hexis identifies what's in it.

Open Smart Log

  1. Open the meal you want to add to.

  2. Tap the + button beside the Search bar.

  3. Tap Smart Log.

Describe your meal

Describe the meal the way you'd describe it to a person. You don't have to use voice - type it into the text box, or tap the microphone and say it out loud instead.

Include your quantities. "A hundred and seventy grams of oats and one large egg" will give you a far more accurate result than "oats and egg."

If you'd rather scan or photograph an item instead, tap the camera icon within Smart Log to jump straight to Scan Food. See How do I scan food or barcodes to log a meal?

While recording, you'll see a live waveform and a timer. Tap the check mark to finish, or the X to cancel.

Check the results

The Results screen shows two things:

  • The transcription, at the top. This is what Hexis heard. If a word has been misread, tap the pencil and edit the text - you don't need to record again.

  • Foods identified, listing each item with its energy and macros, and the quantity Hexis has picked up.

Before anything is added, you can tap the green check mark on an item to deselect it, or change the quantity or unit on any item.

Duplicates

If an item is already in the meal, Hexis tells you and matches the serving size so the two entries can be combined. This stops the same food from being counted twice.

Add them to your meal

Tap Log to add everything you've kept. Tap Try Again to start over.
